what septic tank system to use

I have pp for a bio treatment type septic tank, but my pp is a few years old and i understand things have moved on in the last couple of years.

someone told me that my engineer will certify a different more modern system if it exceeds the standard for which i got pp , which sounds unusually sensible for Ireland, and if that is the case and in light of the new legislation regarding septic tanks and cleaning and inspecting can anyone tell me what is the best and most modern ( and perhaps potentially most economic) version to go with at the moment. And can they recommend a specialist installer to put them in?

I dont have my percolation test results to hand but you can assume they were pretty much within average tolerances

    thanks

You should check with your engineer directly whether he/she will certify a different system to that which was originally approved. Most local authorities call for a site specific design, and variation from that design in some areas that will require a revision to the permission - a new planning application.

As you say, new systems around the inspection of monitoring of septic tanks is on the horizon, and while your engineer may be happy to certify a different system, there is no guarantee that this will suffice if/when you have an inspection - it all comes down to the correct operation and maintenance of the system which is designed to suit your specific site and its condition on the day it is inspected.

You need to hear this from your engineer and not from someone who will preempt what he may or may not do.

Sewage treatment systems are very much "site specific" and unlike times gone by there is now no such thing as a "one size fits all". If you propose to deviate from what was previously approved then, like Supertech pointed out, you will need to reapply for planning permission.

First port of call is to your engineer.
