    Hi all..

Would experience of self defense for instance Aikido or tae kwon do be seen as an advantage for joining?

    Opinions please :)

Think they do tai-ho jitsu (spelt phonetically!) in AGS so maybe go for that?

That's it allright. Not that many places specialise in teaching this particular martial art though as far as I know (outside of T'more that is!)

any martial art is an advantage as the self defence training provided is quite basic

not sure it would do you any favours, last thing they need is a couple of chuck norris s running round getting them selfs in trouble, would be hard for a garda to justify self defence as you dont come about one on their own to often

I've found that going into a foetal position and screaming "not the face, not the face!!!" has served me quite well so far.

How far off retirement are you now at this stage deadwood? 1 or is it 2 years now? this is invaluable advice here by the 'man in the know'! :p

    Hi all.
I am a BTEC self defence, control and restraint and handcuffing instructor. Im also a personal trainer. My back round is over 10yrs of traditional Jujutsu. Along with several years of B.J.J.
I highly recomend learning self defence, although at the moment there are very few schools, if any, out there who take all the legal matters/questions into consideration.
Also, most of these schools find it hard to translate their techniques into a basic form which is easy to learn and use...
