...just arrived at the door. They now reside in my green bin.

Is there a way to opt out of receiving this? Does anyone use either anymore?
Also, they are about half the size. No longer the great big tomes they used to be.

They're great as door stops, something for a little kid to sit on at the table and for starting a fire.

and if you have enough of them its great to put your feet up after a hard day!

It used to be twice the size, but they thought it was too big, so they split it in two, and now you've got two books half the size...

When I first remember seeing Golden Pages the whole country was covered by one volume, written on parchment it was, with wooden covers and the hide of a bison for the spine.

ye gobshítes throwing away fine books like the golden pages.
Free books are always cheaper than firelighters and briquettes :)
Ask many a student who survived through harsh winters with pages from the golden book.

Or just keep them. It's not like they take up much space.

    "much space" is rather relative.

I'll sell you mine so, you'd have to be a bigger gobshìte to stick one on a gas fire.

If you keep enough of them and then wrap them in a curtain off cut you can make a footstool for free. (thanks to Valerie Singleton for that one)

They were very handy for the bait & switch conmen.

They would put an ad in donedeal - 'Laptop for sale'. When they would meet you, they would get you to sit into a car with a buddy in the back, and show you a decent laptop in a laptop bag. They would then put the laptop back into the bag, and pass it back to their buddy in the back.
If you were silly or naive enough to pay up, they would then pass you an identical bag with the golden pages inside, instead of the laptop, let you out of the car, and drive off.
    Bast**ds.

My electricity conked oyt the other day so I used the Golden Pages to call the ESB. First time I've used it in years, but it was mighty useful at the time.
