Programming problem - Sky rev 8 remote + Philips 42PFL7404H/12 TV

Hi guys. The battery went flat on the remote, and I can't seem to get it coded again to the TV set.

0081 is listed as the 4 digit brand code for Philips in lots of places, and this seems to be the stock programming procedure:

    1. Turn on TV & box
    2. Press 'TV' button on remote
    3. Hold down 'select' and 'red' buttons together until remote flashes twice
    4. Key in code (the remote should flash twice)
    5. Press 'standby' button
    6. If TV turns off press 'select' button to save to remote
    7. If TV does not turn off, then press 'TV' button, then 'standby'. Repeat until TV turns off, and press select to save.
    8. Turn TV back on, and press TV guide button.

Trouble is the remote doesn't flash twice after keying in the code, the toggling step in (7) doesn't seem to work either, and the TV guide does not come up when the TV is switched back on. I've tried it many times at this stage in case I was making an error, but no joy.

There seemingly is an alternative 3 digit TV set model specific code, but I've not been able to run it down - the Sky page that's supposed to list it seems to have a problem. It says it recognises the TV but doesn't have a specific code for the remote - and even though it refers to its offering a list of possible codes to try it doesn't display them.

No doubt I'm doing something gormless, but can anybody help? Is there any setting on the Philips remote that came with the TV that could block this procedure? Herself got to it before I did and had a fiddle with it.

Op. when you press (tv), (select) and (red) together, you need to press (tv) again.
Then enter 0081 and press (select).

I use 0584 on my 8404H/12 which is almost the same tv as yours. This code works more of the tv functions on the Sky remote than 0065 does. E.g pressing tv then play let's you Toggle between widescreen/auto format/movie expand and when pressing tv then help let's you use the up and down arrows to select different tv inputs and pressing tv and select switches the tv to the DTT/Saorview menu.

What an odyssey, and thanks guys. It's finally fixed after my last night eventually being walked through a trouble shooting procedure by (an actually very good) Sky guy.

I'm not sure what happened when the remote batteries went flat, but there was at least a double problem.

    (1) The code took some trial and error to find, as it's not listed at any of the locations mentioned - nor at any of those that I could find on the web. The Sky code finder page wasn't working either.

You were right John D - it was 0584. (that's for a rev 8 std Sky remote and Philips 42PFL7404H/12 combo - really catchy model no that!)

    (2) The set had somehow (and I wouldn't rule out inadvertent human involvement) lost the setting that pointed it to the right channel for satellite input, and (possibly) the Scart cable wasn't properly seated.

I tried 0584 several times (quite early on in fact), but because the other settings were off I couldn't see that it was working. So it took a someone able to recognise that it in fact was, and a subsequent manual channel finding exercise to get it sorted.

I think one possible give away that the remote is working even if it's on the wrong channel is that the volume control icon comes up on screen when the volume control is used.

It seems just for info kbell that that second push of the 'TV" button isn't always needed - the Sky guy wasn't asking for it. I don't know if using it causes a problem.

I've e-mailed the code info to the Satcure website at your link John M

    Thank you all again,

    ian
