I think 'motorist' in this context is a euphemism for all road users. Unless of course you want them to read out every possible type of vehicle class, pedestrian, runners, cyclists etc etc each time.

you could see it as a compliment that cyclists dont require stating the bleeding obvious!

    "Road users are warned ..."?

    Is that really difficult?

Saw an accident involving a cyclist at lunchtime.

Well what I saw was the child seat of a bicycle on the road in front of a taxi. The taxi driver was rushing to get a blanket out of his boot to cover the person(s) up and cars had stopped on the opposite side of the road with motorists looking pretty shocked. Happened around monkstown crescent/Longfort place. Hope they were all ok.

So very high winds are worth taking extreme care of (cyclists and drivers). Personally I would not cycle in that weather it is just too dangerous with very powerful gusts coming out of nowhere.

Speed limits do not apply to bikes (although I suspect 130kph may fall foul of other road traffic offences)

Hope the cyclist is OK, but it's not for us to speculate as to cause (or extent of injuries) on such matters

    Thanks

Saw a wheelie bin a few minutes ago fall over and quite literally fly across the rathgar road at some speed and smash into a wall on the far side, how a car, bus, cyclist or pedestrian wasn pasn't passing at the time is quite amazing. On another note I hit 60kmph on a flat road late yesterday afternoon!

3 seconds outside a sub-40 minute commute home tonight. One lengthy westerly stretch possibly cost me a couple of minutes and a new record ...

Was out yesterday evening with the guitar and trailer, Kilmainham to Fairview and back.

It was quite exhilarating, but no problems, I'm glad to say. I had to lean into the crosswinds at time, but the trailer didn't give me any trouble.

Well not so much suffering as expected. Just a couple of hairy moments heading West on John's Road when I was very nearly blown off the bike.

Glad to see you made it home in one piece Unionman. Also had a bit of fun with cross-winds but at least I was on the heavier bike which doesn't seem to be as affected by cross-winds as the road bike.

By the way in the radio was warning motorists to be especially vigilant regarding pedestrians and cyclists in view of the high winds.

I was on a dublin bike for the first time and didn't think I'd ever need to drop down to that lowest gear until I turned into the wind on Leeson street; it was like track-standing while pedaling flat out
