It will happen in GB before it happens here. The end of this month is the launch date and the PVR goes on sale in October. You can pre-order the Fortec Star zapper box from Maplin now.

Adds: Maplin are quoting 19th September.

Hi, does anybody know what channels real digital will have?I checked their website but it doesn't list what channels they have on there.

Is it a proper PVR, as in, has a HDD, or just PVR ready with a USB port? ;)

Its a twin tuner PVR with an integral disk. Plug and play. To answer the rock's question - the full Freesat channels plus Sky Sports 1&2 shortly. As and when Real Digital launch in Ireland - which isnt yet - it should have the standard Irish channels once agreement is made with RTE. TV3 and TG4 are already supportive I believe.

Anyone pre-ordering Real Digital Kit has more money than sense though, since the service has no confirmed launch date and no confirmed channels. A Freesat box is best if you don't want Pay Tv.

There is negative value in buying "Real Digital" receiver unless you are getting Pay TV from them.

If Real Digital proves itself as an Irish Service provider, yes all the Irish TV channels will be on it on same basis as UPC or Sky. Real Digital may cover the cost of this as a "sucker hook" / "puppy dog", but initially it will need the Real Digital viewing card and long term they can only afford to supply the Irish channels as part of a Pay TV package.

Also it will be breaking contract to use the Irish Viewing card in England. If RD digital don't make it as hard as Sky does to have an Irish Card in UK (i.e. An Irish postal address) they will lose carriage of all the Irish TV channels.

Anyone besides me think it looks like an Xbox 360?

If TV3 have come on board, does this mean the ITV channels will be blocked from the Irish version of Real Digital?

Watty on whose authority do you make that statement, RTE or your own? If RTE then you know well that since I don't represent anyone other than myself then negotiating by proxy is pointless. You have consistently knocked Real Digital for months now but you appear to be putting across what you perceive to be the RTE point of view.

You aren't RTE. I'm not Real Digital. By all means knock away but please clarify what your connection is with RTE and if what you are saying comes from RTE or from you.

As you well know my prime interest is LEGAL not grey Market access to Irish TV. You do yourself no favours making snide remarks about me and my motivations for posting about Real Digital either here on on Digital Spy.

I made no snide remark, only a general comment on the Grey market.

I'm only painting an honest realist picture.

I have no connection and never had with RTE. I'm not a fan of them.

It's more than likely anyone that buys their boxes or invests in it will get "burnt". I did an analysis of Pay TV in Ireland over a considerable period (not for RTE) and another operator, Satellite or Terrestrial in Ireland isn't viable. Nothing to do with RTE NL's Bond requirement.

My analysis is honest and unbiased as I have nothing to loose or gain.

I take your point and accept it Watty but where are the preconditions for Real Digital carrying RTE coming from?

If Real Digital is a bona fide Irish Service provider, then they will get the Irish TV services. If they want them, and at Real Digital's carriage and encryption expense. That's Black & White.

At the minute they are only a Potential Service provider, so anything is hypothetical.
