Was delighted to hear last night that Michael Fassbender won the Volpi Cup at last nights Venice Film Festival for his role in Shame.
Great to see he is finally getting the recognition he deserved and given what his performance entails in Shame it is even more deserved.

Link here gives a list of all the winners

The one thing I did notice that last night or today there was not one mention of this on any radio or tv station here in Ireland. I mean even the BBC reported on his win in alot of news reports today. You'd think given the fact he is Irish, well German Irish to be exact, it get some mention.
Mind you the Guardian did then try to claim him as British today just because as he lives there when working.

I'm really surprised None of the Irish Media has bigged this up but seen as they are only interested in who a actor is shagging or what bad behaviour it shouldn't be. For me he's going to be Irish greatest acting talent if he goes on the way he's going. SHAME seems to be the film thats been getting the critical plaudits hile A Dangerous Method has benn hit and miss.

He's definitely making a name for himself. He'd make a great Bond.

Wonderful achievement. The reviews I've read suggest this is just the first of many awards Fassbender will win for this performance.

Congrats also to Dublin cinematographer Robbie Ryan who also won at Venice for his work on Andrea Arnold's Wuthering Heights.

The Guardian tried to claim him, too!

Exactly we heard headline news on c**p like the X-Factor etc but yet when an extremely talented actor wins one of the biggest acting awards out there it barely gets a mention. Or does 3 days later.

He is def is the actor "de jour" at the moment and also he is extremely talented not like some of the todays so called great actors.

Shame sounds to be excellent, can imagine the "Careful now" "Down with this sort of thing" brigade out in force if it gets released here. :D
I heard mixed reviews of A Dangerous Method alright but I think that critics expected something totally different , as in it was not Cronenberg enough for them. Still am looking forward to seeing it.

Sure look them and rest of British papers try to claim anyone when they win awards.
Suppose in one way it is a complement. You know an Irish actor has made it when the British press try to claim him.

I couldn't agree more...the International media are going crazy for him (rightly so) but it wasn't much of a big deal at home?!! Crazy but can't wait to see him in Shame the few clips they have released look great :) I've been a fan for a long time and it's so nice for him to finally get the recogntion he deserves...he's gonna be big!!
