Ill start by saying IM NOT LOOKING FOR MEDICAL ADVICE.Have a sore achilles and am pretty sure its being caused by the collar of my shoe.Is there any sort of cushion or insert that can alleviate this,or is it a matter of going back to the drawing board and getting different shoes? Cheers in advance.

    1) Are your shoes old? How many miles / kms?
    2) Inserts may improve your problem but may also lead to other issues (change in running gait, discomfort, pain). I'd try different shoes (models / brands) as they probably have different collar shapes, heights, sizes. Try to find a model that technically matches the one you have but with a different collar.

I am not sure what you mean by "collar" but you could try cutting it off!

He means the heel counter, some people find the heel counter can be too high in certain shoes and cause friction/irritation to the achilles.
I know a few club athletes who cut the heel counter of their asics 2160's

I don't think it's a good idea to cut the collar off... It also depends on what OP meant by sore Achilles... if the skin is inflamed as in a blister then a bit of vaseline should do the job.

Its more a bruised feeling, not blisters.Interesting that some club runners cut the collars off their 2160's. My shoes are 1160's
