I have a very old book on Ireland. I am within striking distance of Mealys in Castlecomer. Ok, now the stupid qs:
    1) Do you need to make an appt to get a valuation?
    2) Do you pay a fee
3)Is Mealys the best place for this?

Mealy's should be good and there won't be a charge especially if they think that you may use them to sell it for you. Probably best to give them a ring. You could also try checking your book on http://www.abebooks.com/ :)

none of the above ,as the cover is not the original, even though it's at least 70 years on the book!Mealys looked for €20, redundable if it is sent for sale (which it probably never will)Will let ye know how I get on, collecting it towards weekend.

So you have abook with no publishing information whatsoever and a home-made cover? Unless its an illuminated manuscript i really dont know why you think it would be valuable.

Because it's over 100 yrs old and I want to learn more about it.

Update, checked with a few rellies and it dates from 1880.Still don't know author etc though.Thought Mealeys might be able to restore it ,but they don't do retoration ,but will give me the name of someone who can.

History of Ireland, by A.M Sullivan. It's been valued at €250, but I wouldn't ever consider selling it..Thaks to those who helped.
