Hi my computer bricked up the other day. Windows wont boot.

Says the problem is File: scsiport.sys Status: 0xc000000f

File is missing or corrupt. My computer is out of warranty running on vista. Could I get the installation disc from manufacturer or do currys, pcworld, etc. stock it? Had a quick google and only see win7 so if anyone knows that would be great.

The computer says insert disc and select repair computer. If I used a win7 disc do u think it would work or not to repair the file or would it want to install win7 and I lose everything on the hard drive?

    Any advice would be great,cheers

What brand of computer is it? Generally there is a hidden partition you can access to repair Windows, tell me the computer model and I can help further, usually when the machine is booting there is a press FXX key for recovery/restore machine

Try pressing the [F10] key when the machine turns on (you see the Vaio logo), I'm just guessing, Sony are useless at providing online documentation, at this logo screen where it says press [FXX] key to enter setup, look for another option there for recovery, press the key multiple times btw

You could use an linux live cd, which is an OS.

Then connect an external hard drive, and copy over the 'users' folder to it.

    Then perform a factory reset.

Have you a product key sometimes if you don't that can determine if windows is installed successfully or not.
