UK Terrestrial channels on iPad/iPhone

There is a free app available for the iPad/iPhone which gives live access to the five UK terrestrial channels, plus some others also. I have tried it and it works perfectly, crystal clear BBC1, ITV1 etc, particularly on the iPad. I'm not complaining, but how is this allowed, in relation to broadcasting rights etc ? Or are they not bothered about the small ROI population ? ( I presume this app is not available outside the UK and ROI ).

This is the century of technology and an updated technology is moving toward compactness, your post is an excellent example of it, sooner iphone will cover all the office work as a whole system.

I know modern technology makes almost anything possible. I was just wondering how this app allows free access to British television channels, when broadcasting rights are normally such a protected species ?

Presumably it's not geo blocking locations outside the UK.

It may be operating on the same basis as Magnet's Web TV - although I understand that does geoblock.

Apple are not normal ones to allow apps breaking T&Cs on the App Store. Wierd.

Just checked and it's on Android in the market place as well and it streams Ch5 and BBC2 at least. Be one for wireless connections (if it works) and not the data bundle! They also have a website filmon.com but I can't check it out at present.

It's a great app. I've been using it for Channel 5 these past few weeks. It supports Airplay on iOS, so you can watch it on the big screen.

Filmon have been around for a while. If you Google it you will find out about it's owner and how he's doing it. It is rather high profile. Their website has been around a while. It supported iOS streaming via the browser for over a year. But that has gone subscription only now. Their App continues to work for free.

It works globally too! I'm in China at the moment and able to watch BBC with no issues at all.

New section added today called Irish Channels, currently showing BBC1NI and UTV. Wonder will they add RTE, TV3 etc soon, as they seem to have no problem with broadcasting rights etc. Also, UK section has DAVE and Really added today also.

Has anybody tried getting the free channels, RTE etc, on their computer from Magnet TV ? I have tried, but it just keeps saying processing your registration, but nothing happens !

AerTV.ie launched today, providing all Irish Channels :)
