    Hi,

I was just wondering if you pass all the FE-1's and obtain an apprenticeship from a Solicitor do they pay the fee's for your tuition and training at Blackhall Place or do you have to pay those fee's yourself?

It depends entirely on the firm. Large firms pay the blackhall fees and pay salaries during blackhall. Then there is a string of firms who will pay your ppc1 fee but not your salary while you are there and then there's a lot of firms paying neither. Some small firms do pay it all so it's really something you'd have to talk about on an individual basis.

If you get an offer for an traineeship but the fees and/or salary aren't paid you could look at a grant. The Law Society offer a bursary and PPC courses are recognised for the purposes of local authority grants to the same extent as post grad courses.

Some people who have completed a degree and fe1s may fall into the mature student category. 23 on Jan 1st. If not from Dublin or they live away from home they would stand a better chance of getting the grant as an independent mature student.

It won't cover everything but it all adds up. You can get tax relief on the fees so if you are in employment up until PPC this will also result in a discount. Probably at the standard rate 20%. If not working maybe a parent could get the relief and then reimburse them.
