Ok had a bad year for cycling this year the demands of family life etc.. hoping to come back next season fighting fit to this end i have cleaned out the shed and picked up a weights bench, dumbells and punchbag all of which are mocking me everytime i open the shed. Im aware of the arguments for and against weight training for cycling but to a certain point i think it can only help. So basically asking what other people do and can anyone point me to a suitable programme or site for info bearing in mind the bike will still be my number one training option. Thanks

I've used weight training, similar setup to you, to help me get back to fitness and build up the strength again after injury in conjunction with the turbo trainer. Did my own thing as I had done in previous years and thankfully it has done wonders for me!

Some guys here will swear by Joe Friels Book which includes weight-training as part of a cycling training program for the season ahead.

Do you want a weights program tailored with your cycling regime or just do weights to build strength aside from the cycling?

Like him or loathe him, there are some very good weight and strength training instructional videos based around Lance Armstrong on youtube.

    eg:

And you can always mute the heavy metal soundtrack :)

Thanks velo, Id like something to go with the cycling regime but as i mentioned 3 young kids means i have to take my training chances as they come so it needs to be pretty flexible (I may be looking for the holy grail here) Ill definately look up that book you mentioned
