i was recently revising options for investing my money . (not into markets just major banks). and i was getting told if i put 1000 euro in for 3 years ill earn 50 euro a year (average 5%) for the 3 years i leave a whole grand in that i cant touch and after 3 years ill have earned 150 euro .

now this is the first time i pondered about investing but thats not that much for the inconvienience of me not being able to thouch the money for 3 years .

but heres the kicker . the assistant that was explaining this to me said and after you recieve youre interest youll have to pay dirt and i asked how much . 20 % . robbery . so that s 30 euro gone out of the 150 euro interest laeving it at 120 return on investment for 3 years .

    personally i think thats a joke .

how can the goverment put a tax on personal intrest .

will we ever be able to get rid of that tax please post youre taughts respectfully .

maybe we could get this tax passed . with enough support .
and could you recommend any high paying banks to earn alot of interest with most benifits .

Dirt is more like 27%. if you're self employed you have to pay prsi on it too. I share your dislike for the tax but to be honest I can't see how in theory it is any more unfair than another tax eg income tax

but why would people invest if so little is made in the process . just put it into a current account, for going without 1000 euro for 3 years untouchable to make 100 euro is ridiculous .

does any body have a place they can recommend to invest into with a good return looking for a bank not market .

Because if you don't need the money now, something (even if it is small) is better than nothing.

A lot of people I'd imagine; including yourself if the rate is right.
