Hey guys looking for laptop for the sister. The max she is willing to pay is €500! She will need it for the usual college work, download music / movies, and the general browsing on the web. Where's the best place to buy laptops these days and what make / model should she be going for or avoiding, cheers folks.

Elara.ie have good prices and great support saveonlaptops.co.uk have good prices too.

Personally I would avoid Dell, build quality is pretty poor.

From my experience(repair technician), IBM/Lenovo thinkpads are by far the best laptops available. The build quality and features are way above hp, dell, etc - probably the reason they are the only laptop used on NASA space stations.

IBM have had no involvement since 2008, the largest shareholder in Lenovo is the Chinese government.

Doesn't really matter who makes them as long as the quality is excellent.

I have sold seven Lenovos in the last three month and i love them. For a budget laptop i think that the build quality is better than anything else i have bought. Saveonlaptops.co.uk is fine if you have a credit card or paypal.

I recently went to the sony shop and picked up a sony for €539 with a two year warranty. It has instant web access and a preloaded version of office starter.
