iPhone Checking (Private Sale)

Guys, ive often thought about this but when buying privately, is there anyway of checking an iPhone to make sure its not on the stolen list or black listed etc?

The sister is about to buy one privately through adverts.ie but i just want to make sure everything is above board.

The seller says its an upgrade from Meteor but he is not with meteor anymore.
its brand new and still sealed in the box.

If it was a bill pay phone he would be still under contract so if he aint paying his bill the phone could be rendered useless by phone company

red flag. you cant get and upgrade and "not be on meteor anymore" as when you upgrade you must sign a contract. and it cant be a prepay one as meteor dont sell them prepay.

is it his phone to sell?

Meteor do infact sell the iPhone 4 on prepay it's priced at approx €570

get the imei and check with meteor, see if its still under contract
