Does it receive the new Saorview Digital Text?

I just recently purchased this PVR but on scanning channels it does not pickup saorview listings.

I live in west tyrone, recieve RTE analogue (truskmore, I think) and TV tuner picks up rte radio. Would have thought with newer Mpeg5 tuner, saorview channels would be listed on 800s.

Is there something I need to do ?

    thanks

Seems to be a few patches in West Tyrone with no coverage. What kind of aerial do you have?

The PVR's tuner may not be as sensitive as the tv, so a weak signal may not register.

    Do you have TV3 & TG4 analogue?

Im not sure of the aerial type. I've just gone out into the dirty weather and took a pic

Ive checked the coverage map and it says has coverage. Through analogue TV3 and TG4 have always been fuzzy.
If this PVR tuner is sensitive, I will return it but what PVR HD+ to get ?

    Thanks for the help

The aerial at the top is VHF band III for RTE analogue only. The one underneath is UHF but is presumably for UK channels.

There certainly doesn't appear to be a UHF aerial pointing at the same transmitter as the VHF & Saorview (also TV3 & TG4 analogue) is UHF; in the case of Truskmore, a group C/D or wideband UHF aerial is required.

Just out of interest, do you know which UHF channel no. the Saorview radio stations picked up by the tv are carried on (for Truskmore it's channel 53)?

Ive just manually rescanned for channel 53 and low and behold saorview channels found in the 800s listing. That top aerial must be picking them up as the other is for freeview as you say.
Anyway Im happy, thanks for the help.

If that's the case you must have good signal strength.

You can replace the VHF aerial with a much smaller UHF type whenever you no longer need RTE analogue (it'll be switched off October 24th 2012 anyway, same day as stage 2 NI switchoff).

Sony HDT 500 PVR - anyone have any first hand knowledge of whether this Freeview HD + recorder has both Freeview/Saorview on same EPG? Sony Uk have told me via e mail it is not Saorview compatible while Sony shop in Belfast told me that Sony Ireland have made it clear it does Saorview and if you input UK code it has freeview channels first followed by Saorview. Would consider purchasing if this is correct.

    @ amorset:
Most likely, the saorview signals are being received via the "side" of the uhf antenna. If the signal strength and more importantly quality are consistent, then no antenna upgrade may be needed at all.

Yes, the diplexer should filter out any UHF picked up by the VHF aerial.

    Thanks again for that:
    (1) I get Freeview from Divis,Belfast - all multiplexes coming in fine and Saorview from Clermont Carn with a good signal at present - just sound no picture which is why I'm thinking of purchasing the Sony Freeview HD.
    (2) Could you possibly rephrase the last sentence as I can't quite make it out?

Spot on regards my signal - i am getting 'some'. My signal strength is average 35% and quality is 12%. It looks fine at this but its dropping too often to 0-2% quality, which is unwatchable. So is it that I need to replace the VHF ugly thing with a UHF aerial.
I want to do it myself as I dont have the spare cash to be paying installers. It seems an easy job to do looking up from down here ! (Maybe I could put something in attic)

Finally, I read from other thread that soarview channels may come to northern ireland. So would this means my existing UHF aerial will pick these up and will things like champions league football be blocked, similar to that done with sky.

    Thanks

Which transmitter are your UK channels coming from? Is it Brougher Mountain (UHF channels 22-34)?
I read from other thread that soarview channels may come to northern ireland.

This will only be RTE & TG4, not the full Saorview service.

You may also need a different diplexer (combiner), are you currently receiving your UK channels from Brougher Mountain (UHF channels 22-34)?

This will only be RTE & TG4 afaik, not the full Saorview service.

Freeview is from ch22-34, so yes
OK, I need a new diplexer, any particular one recommended.

    Appreciate the help

There don't seem to be that many UHF/UHF diplexers widely available.

Triax TFC3739 should be a good choice for your location. Avoid older model unscreened types.

Cheers, I see amazon sell them for 14 quid.
I'll think about whether I can do this (and scaling a roof !)

    Thanks for the info.
