Big fight for Sweeney tonight, it mightn't seem it but if he were to lose that's the end of any sort of meaningful career. He's hinted at European title fights and the like, which is a load of nonsense. He's not even in the EU rankings at the moment nevermind the full European rankings, so he can forget thinking about any major fights like that for the time being. Now those rankings are for July so wouldn't have taken into account his win over Waldron, but that isn't gonna have much impact imo.

There was talk of him fighting Healy and that bout didn't go ahead but would be the perfect fight in the future for him. A win over Boyle tonight and then defeating Healy for the Irish Light-Heavyweight rankings would almost certainly ensure an EU ranking, although still unlikely to get him a European. A couple of defences against the likes of Jonjo Finnegan, Michael Monaghan, or a return with Healy and he could conceivably get himself a European ranking.

Sweeney's capable of fighting at a much higher level than he's out, but he'll do himself no good jumping in at the deep end, and the truth is he can't even do that from the position he's in anyway so he has much work to do. By right he should be down at Super-Middleweight anyway if he was really taking things seriously. He could have a good career for himself down at that weight, but I doubt we'll ever see it.
