That just sounds like an IP conflict error.

Are you connecting wired or wirelessly at home?

    What's the ip and url?

I just mean if you're connecting wired in to your router or wirelessly.

If there are a number of devices hooked up to your router each one is assigned an IP address (each machine, gaming console, smart phone). So it may have given the same ip to two machines on your home network. You can get around this by assigning yourself a static ip in control panel - network.

What operating system are you running and how are you connecting to your router (wired in with a cable or wirelessly)?

Ok well first of all you're going to need to get the details of what your IP address is currently.

To do this press the windows key + R at the same time and a box entitled "run" should appear.

Type "cmd" (without quotes) in to this and press enter. A black window will open.

In here type "ipconfig" (again, without quotes) and press enter again. This will give you your machines' ip details.

The main things you're looking for are the following:

    ip address.
subnet mask (I'm pretty sure this will be set to 255.255.255.0)
default gateway (this ones' important this is the router address).

Then you'll need to go in to your wireless settings.

I'm assuming it's the same way to get there in a windows 7 setup.

Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> View network status and tasks -> Change adaptor settings.

In here you'll notice your wireless card. Right click on it and select Properties.

Double click on the ipv4 settings and here you can select to enter an address manually.

The DNS server can be the same number as the Default Gateway. You can choose any address in the first IP address box once it falls within range of your network. For example if your gateway is 192.168.1.1 you can assign your machine any address from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254

The subnet mask will remain the same as the ipconfig you performed earlier.

If you want to wait until morning and post up the ip and url of the site if you're not too happy doing the above.

Surprised noone asked, what anti-virus, firewall running? Some of the better ones might have blocked a website or pc. Are you sure it was IP and URL in the box and not IP and MAC address?

No definitely a IP address and URL address i have them wrote down, there's two computers in the house so would that be anything to do with someone else using another computer?

No, if it was url then it has nothing to do with the other computer. What AV and/or firewall you using?

Are things failing to open? Ie try open word or something does it open or is there an error? This could well be a rogue (fake) internet suite that tried to scam you into handing over credit card details,

Do you see any button to pay to fix the problem or activate the software when the error occurs? It could be a Windows conflicting IP issue, try chi_grins solution above to set your computer to be for e.g: 192.168.1.57 or something

    and URL is platform.ak.fbcdn.net/www/app-full.proxy.php?

that's it all there haven't a clue what it means.

Could you make a screenshot and upload it? It sounds like a firewall or something is blocking it, just out of interest do you use peer guardian or similar?

That is not a valid IP address, should be in a format of 0.0.0.0.
There is no way that windows would block another pc on the same wireless network because of IP conflict and a router set to DHCP will not issue the same IP to the two computers.

I strongly suspect that it is either blocked by your firewall as a potential attack or its a virus.

Best bet would be to scan the system for viruses in safe mode. If unsure how to perform it let us know.

yes i agree i think its a virus.. i put the IP in to google earlier and it was not listed..

Its a tool that blocks IPs of certain anti piracy organisations to make it less likely of getting caught using P2P sharing ;) Tbh its not relyable as most of these organisations are a step ahead, anyways that tool from memory sometimes shows alerts that a certain ip has been blocked, as said though its not a valid IP being blocked so unless its a typo by you its a pritty strange error, try get a screenshot of it :)

It's just your antivirus blocking a potentially harmful website or connection. Some Facebook app pages redirect to external sites so that's possibly what happened.

    Nothing to worry about! :)

An IP address is a unique identifier for an individual session on the internet. Sometimes this address changes when you disconnect and reconnect usually with dialup connections.

If we have blocked your IP address there is always a very good reason. Typically users "spamming" the boards or being intentionally disruptive by creating multiple user names cause IP blocking. Sometimes this results in entire IP blocks being banned.

This could mean innocent users are being prohibited from using WHT. If you think your IP has been unfairly blocked, please submit a helpdesk ticket we will assist you in gaining access to the Community.
