...it said it's compulsory, but would it be a big deal if I couldn't go? It's kind of started now, so i'm just kind of curious.

Yup. You get thrown out of college and banned from all other Irish universities!!

No wait, you'll be grand, Nobody will notice you're gone!

You'll just need to get hold of the first year introductory timetable/information booklet on Monday so you know where you're going. Other than that I found orientation completely useless. Unless they've jazzed it up since 2009..

Also, they don't tell you this at orientation, although they really should - don't stand in crowds in the middle of hallways! Ahem. ;)

    @westernNight

Do I go to the Student Union for that booklet?

I was there. It was useless.

Most important thing for a first year to learn tbh (and to leave the library/lecture if you need to have a full blown conversation).

Go to your faculty office for that. :D

Lol yeah. I looked through a complaint thing on this, and that seems to be a big annoyance:P

I probably sound like an idiot, but is there one faculty offfice, or does each degree have their own...:S

Well that Orientation might have been helpfulXD

All the courses in a particular faculty will be administrated from the same faculty office so there's only one office for you.

What course are you doing? My relatively limited knowledge of which faculty office is located where may be of some use yet. :D

    Oh I'm doing Arts.

Ok, so you want to go to the Arts Millennium Building in that case (it's upstairs, I think).

But in the mean-time, this is your first year student guide, this is when the introductory lectures are happening and this is the timetable for the rest of the year. :D

    Welcome to NUIG btw!

Does one have to attend these introductary lectures for first year arts?

    I think I deserve a week off :P

Yeh, I'd definitely recommend going. I had 3 definite subjects picked for 1st Arts and couldn't decide on a fourth. I went to introductory lectures in seven subjects for a fortnight and eventually made a selection. I had great notions of Soc&Pol, but opted for Philosophy instead.

I have my four subjects picked. Can they be changed up until a certain date?

You have to have the final choice made by October 7th.
