    Well lads,

I've decided I want to get a straight through exhuast fitted to my 1.9 tdi bora. I know people have split views about it but I really like the sound off them! I dont want something so loud im deaf after driving jus somthing a bit more aggressive and that sweet "choo" sound after changing gear. I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to them so i need ye're help like the if there is any disadvantages, how much it would cost and where i could get it done...

    Thanks

I've never owned a diesel but the verdict is you'll lose power with one

Just decat, and you will actually gain more exhaust flow = more power on a turbo car

On any turbo car, less back pressure is better unless its a specific turbo that needs it.
On a diesel with the larger boost its a great mod to gain bhp and most cars wont even need a remap to get some of the gains although you wont see a huge increase without one.
Im not sure where the notion it loses power has come from, pretty much all turbo cars work better with less back pressure as it aids spooling time and reduces pressure in the exhaust manifold allowing higher boost to be achieved safely without turbo damage.
Only issue is they sound atrocious on a diesel, i had to put a box in mine :pac:

i was gonna say this aswell as OP should Really google alot of the kits used because its sound he is after so pick the one that sounds best and make sure shes mounted right and high to avoid poxy scrapes. Soon as you find the one you like, get the best deal, fit her, then remap and enjoy imo

So because two people said it on the internet it becomes true? I dont imagine either are very experienced in diesel tuning although if they are i will let them reply and say so.
In general its a very good thing (bar the tone :o) but as always there can be the odd car setup that wont work with it

Well I know GaryITR works with Joe Power, and he does know a thing or two about it. :)

Im going to see him next month to get my car tested ;) id imagine they more specialise in standard diesel tuning and more extreme petrol.

That's fair enough but you're just another person on the internet aswell :p

So,what gains can the OP expect so on his TDI with a straight through exhaust?I'm assuming the rest of the car is mod free as he never mentioned anything in his post so let's just assume the exhaust is the only mod.

    I know this :D

Honestly not a huge amount maybe a faster spool time and 1-2 hp but most certainly it wont cost him power, this is the big important bit

i have a straight pipe on my tdi golf 115bhp. must say it sounds the part, especially changing up gears(similiar sound to a dumpvalve) afew of the lads with tdi's want to get straight pipes now aswell. i dont think im losing any power like there saying below but i would defo recommend it. the only disadvantage is feul consumption but it is still alot better than vtec, mivecs etc . must remap mine now to 140-150

The noise the OP is referring to is compressor surge which is bad for a turbo, yes backpressure isnt an issue with turbo cars as the turbo provides the backpressure, but also as diesels are compression ignition engines and theoretically only ever need more diesel to up power, id spend my money on a remap as your see better gains and most likely similar if not better fuel economy ( while driving normally of course) Also if you decide to get the car remapped to have 150brake like the top of the range golf TDis bear in mind they use a different turbo which can handle more boost, doing this to yours will almost certainly result in it failing.

Better in terms of fuel consumption, probably.
better in terms of..everything else? No. and don't try and fool yourself either.

Hi, i have a 2.0 tdi jetta and want the same sound from mine. Did you get your pipe done? Exactly which part of the exhaust do i need to remove to put the straight pipe on?
