HEy everyone I don´t know how to work this or how to start threads so I was wondering if ye could help me with this?

I failed two 5 credit modules (One which I only sat once as I was ill for the summer exam I had a med cert for this which was handed in etc) this year and have been told I cannot progress to second year unless I spend the year repeating these two modules alone. As you can understand this would be a huge financial burden for my family as it would be an extra year of accomadation/commuting fees for 2 hours of lectures a week.

As I have met all other criteria to progress to second year I am wondering if you know anything about being able to carry on modules etc. as I am having difficulty finding the information I need from the college in Brookfield.

I have 50 passed credits and attained overall marks of 710/1200. However, in order to progress to second year I need to have achieved a mark of 45 in both failed modules and I only got a mark of 39 in both. However, there were also marks for continuous assessment aspects of each module and I am not sure whether or not they were counted in this.

If you know of any appeal or any way I can try to fight my case I would really appreciate your help.

In the UCC boards page, you will see 'New Thread' close to the left hand corner of the top page under where you have the list of other forums.

Did they not compensate your result with another module? I think you are allowed maximum one failed module say at 30% but if you have a low mark in another module you can get away with 40%. The fact you failed two modules you have to repeat the two but think you should only have to repeat the one if you got around 30% upwards, they should at least compensate you for one of the subjects. Did you fail the repeat exams in august since you weren't their for the summer one? If so you will need to repeat the year. The maximum you could get in a repeat august exam is 40% equivalent to 100% in the summer exams. Unfair I know...

Look at it in another way, might give you a chance to do other things while studying just two modules, might give you a break from a full time course for the year despite the expenses.

You could appeal since you got 39% in each module they should at least compensate for one of the modules and up you to 40% but its unfortunate that they will only allow you on unless you got at least 45% in both modules then you probably have to repeat the year. I say appeal it and hope that they might compensate and up your marks. You could just get your scripts checked and appeal that way. Good luck.
