I dropped it running across a road and an almighty thud and broken glass yet the 5D II and 70-200L IS f4 showed how tough they were with as far as I can tell/know only the filter and lens cap breaking!
Problem is I cannot get the broken filter off, the glass is all gone but there is a buckle in the screw part....any ideas?

Careful use of a filter/small pipe wrench.

    or

Extremely careful use of a cutting wheel on a dremel.

    or

    Take it to ISS.

Ask someone to hold the lens part for you to stop it turning then you grip the filter using a handtowel try unscrewing it. It is always a good idea if it doesn't loosen straight away to turn it a little in the tightening direction and then turn it in the loosening direction. With 2 strong guys it should come apart for you. Sorry to hear of your incident.

one way of applying even pressure on the filter while trying to unscrew it is get a rubber power cord, kinda like the ones you get on extension cables, and run it around the filter and pull tight. should allow for a bit of increased grip without excess pressure at any one point.
