Aer Lingus online check in check

Right, so I've not flown Aer Lingus in some time. I really like Ryanair (it's strange, I know!).

I'm checking in online for some flights this weekend. One flight is tomorrow morning and the other is Sunday evening.

I've checked in for Saturdays flight no problem.

I'm trying to check in for Sundays flight but I can't, presumably because I'm outside the 30 hours. They offer an advanced check in but says you have to select seats .. which then goes on to charge you to select seats.

Am I missing something or do you have to pay extra and book a seat so that you can check in more than 30 hours before hand?

Assuming I've no access to internet or PC when I'm away my only other option then is gonna be check in at the airport on Sunday for return flight?

    Thanks

Your correct. If you haven't prebooked seats, you can't use the advanced check in. You have to wait until normal check-in opens, or roll up at the airport.

roll up to the airport and use electronic check in at the many machines available easy peezy and no scrum for the seating

I'm flying to the US on Tuesday, but because we're going Dublin->Chicago->Jacksonville (the latter flight is operated by United through Aer Lingus) a friend of mine said that it's not possible to check in online beforehand if you're getting a connecting flight. Just wondering if this is the case? I haven't seen it on the website but I don't want to try and check in online and screw anything up. Am I better just showing up and checking in at the airport? My bus gets in at least 3hrs 20mins before departure so I'll have plenty of time. I presume you don't have to check in online.

When we flew Dublin->Atlanta->New York in January we were able to get all boarding passes in Dublin airport at the drop off desk, but that was all through Delta, and because this is Aer Lingus and United I'm unsure if it'll be the same...

Also, on the way back do we need to have the original booking confirmation email to be able to check in at Jacksonville airport? It's a domestic flight with JetBlue to JFK and then on to Dublin from there with Aer Lingus. Bit confused!

I'm also curious about this. I'll be flying with Aerlingus to the US in a few weeks. Is it necessary to do an online check in or ok just to do it at the airport? When I booked the flights I made my seat selection at the time. I'm assuming it's alright just to check in at the airport (I don't mind being there earlier to do this)?

I just want to make sure they haven't gone the way of ryanair and charging an arm and leg to check in at the airport :P But I wouldn't be able to do it for the return flight anyway as it's well outside the 30hour window (at least ryanair give you a couple of weeks!)

Yeah, I selected my seat when I booked at the time as well. I guess I can report back to you when I return :P

I think I'll just leave it and give them my booking reference and check in when I get there. That's what I'll have to do coming back anyway because there won't be any facility for me to print out the boarding pass regardless.

Yeah when I last flew with them a couple of years ago I don't think there were any problems checking in at the airport, just want to make sure it's still ok these days :) I assume if they expected everyone to check in online they'd have to give more leeway than the 30 hours though as most people don't have easy access to printers while they're away.

I flew to the States with them in 2008 and I'm fairly certain we checked in at the airport and it was all fine. Exactly, it's hard enough to print the boarding passes out, let alone do it within the 30 hour allowance.

Our email confirmation has the JetBlue booking confirmation included in it anyway so I'm sure we can just show up with that at the airport on the way home.

    Quick question.

Do you just need your Booking Reference at the airport?

Just use this on the self check in? Is this right?

    Thanks.

Yes, but you usually don't even need it. Just scan your passport in the machine and enter your destination. The only likely reason where you might need it is if there is another person on the same flight with a similar name and they need to figure out which one you are.

    Please do

I'm back from my holiday and I was literally worrying about nothing. We didn't even need our booking reference for either Aer Lingus or JetBlue. We just showed up at the check-in desk, gave them our passports and they printed our boarding passes for us and put our bags through. It was grand because for going and and coming back they just put the bags all the way through so we didn't need to check back out and in again or pick up the bags until the end destination :)

Thanks! I did, although could have done without the two flights each way, forgot how exhausting it is!

Quick question on similar topic . Checked in online for flight home from Manchester to Dublin. Thought I cud do this and print boarding cards at them little kiosk things at airport. Turns out they don't have them at Manchester airport :( will they print my boarding cards at check in desk or is there a 40 euro fee like Ryan Air ?
