Car Warranty

Hi All. Just looking for advice if anyone can help.
I purchased a 4 year old car from a registered SIMI garage which cost me 15,000eur. At the time of purchase, I was given a 1 year warranty with a car warranty company.

The car develop problems with the clutch and to cut a long story short the repair bill is close to 1,800eur. The warranty company refused to pay out but eventually said they would cover 1,000eur as a gesture of goodwill as my car was in the garage for 5 weeks and is still there.

I am looking for the garage I bought the car from to cover the additional 800eur as I only had the car 3 months before the problem arose.

Am I right to expect them to pay ???

    Thanks

What does your contract say with the warranty company?

You won't get anything other than a chuckle from the garage. Them being SIMI means nothing. SIMI represent the motor industry NOT the consumers of the motor industry.

This is probably best suited to the Motors forum, as it's a bit specialist.

Clutch related - you are very lucky to be getting 1000 from an aftermarket warranty company. I would grab that 1000 and run. What warranty company is it? and why would you allow your car to be off the road for 5 weeks?

What exactly is wrong? If it's a DMF it's a grey area but I think they should cover it.

Very grey area indeed both DMF and clutch would be wear and tear items and would not normally be covered unless the car was brand new..

I'd be skeptical enough of the DMF being classed as a wear and tear item. They'll try no doubt but I'd argue it with them.

I am willing to bet that the exclusions section of the aftermarket warranty specifically state that clutch components could be considered wear and tear after four years.

As usual an OP has feck all information (dont know why they bother really). What is wrong with the clutch? Is it a worn flywheel? Did you burn it out doing doughnuts with the lads? What?

I am told the problem is that the clutch needs to be upgraded from a 6 plate clutch to a 7 plate clutch and to fix it is classed as a modification to the car. Or so the warranty company are saying, and no I did not do doughnuts with the lads

Anyway, update is that the warranty has paid the 1,000 and the garage is looking after the balance of the bill. Even though it has taken so long to sort, I still like the garages approach to the problem. Just got the car back last night. :D

Just got call from the garage I bought the car from to see if I was happy with the car since I got it back. Told him I was delighted so far and thanked him. He then asked me if I was willing to make a contribution of about 400eur towards the cost of the repair :eek:

    I politely declined ;) Cheek !

Yeah, an A6. Do you reckon that the upgrade to the 7 plate clutch should be the end of the problems ?

There is nothing to be skeptical about unfortunatly, the DMF manufactures them selves class the DMF as a wearable item. The design brief is that they should last the life of 2 clutches but of course in the real world that doesn't happen.
