Hi. Looking for some ideas for LSR routes in Cork city. I need to do 16 miles this weekend and am heading to Cork and have no idea where to run. Even a 4 or 8 mile circuit would be great. Thanks

If you go down to the Marina there is a circuit of about 5 miles which I run. I guess you could just run this 3 times. I cant get it on google maps right now but I start on Victoria Road, carry on down Centre Park road and onto the Marina. Once at the end of the road if you loop around by Mahon point and up the skehard Road, it should be around 5 miles back to Victoria road.

Cork Half is on the 11th, might be worth looking at.

I usually run down the old railway track from pairc ui chaoimh. From pairc ui chaoimh down the railway track and back along the blackrock castle coast route (very pretty) is about 10km but the railway track also extends for about 5km or so towards passage west. So you could have a 20km out and back route there. There are plenty more quiet roads around the marina so you should be able to make up the extra distance.

yip see above :)http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5071103. very nice route. very little traffic on any roads there and most off road tracks. Am I a bit mad that I want to live on castle road for this reason ?

Not at all. I was thinking of going back to Cork this year to live and would definitely have been looking for a place with good runs. No question about it.

For sure that route & the Lee Fields would be my favourites around town. Another route I like is out the Lee Rd on the north side of the river to the far end of Ballincollig & then back in through the regional park & the Straight Road.

I know it well but have never ran it as I drive it going to work and that bad corner here. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5073473 The lee road has a speed limit of 80k and is very popular with boy racers as it shouldnt be. Lots of people run it but its not the safest route IMHO.

You need to pick your times with the Lee rd. Early sunday is grand and I also use it midweek at lunchtime. Listening to music along that road is not recommend.

Yeah I know that corner well, I cross to the left hand side of the road coming up to it so I've a sporting chance of survival. There's an infrequent bus route along the road as well that I've only met once this year but meeting that on the bend wouldn't bear thinking about. Wearing a fluorescent yellow vest is mandatory!

I got hit by a car tonight coming out of a housing estate. It was bright and I was wearing a hi-visor. She look right and just went. I am grand as she stopped in time but she nearly drove over me. I don't wear an iPod so I can hear traffic. My point is basically running at a black spot that you known of such as that corner is madness. The Ballincollig bus you will only need to meet it once.
