Hi, I want to get a media device which has in and around 1tb (would settle for 500+, I suppose) that plays MKVs h264s as well as the more common file types.
    Any advice welcome.

Nice 2nd hand box going on Adverts.ie

Low profile, Media Center front display, loads of media connectors.

I have no involvement in ad.
I have just completed my build of same box.
    I added in a Hauppauge HVR4400 DVB-T / DVB-S2 card.

If you just want a media player (i.e. not Live TV from terrestrial or satellite) then a small and neat mini-itx build with XBMC installed would be perfect.

You could build or buy pre-made (example)
