Nutrition advice

I'm looking for some advice on nutrition but need to give you the reason I'm here looking for help in the first place so you can understand where I'm coming from.
I recently did the 70.3 in Galway and this is the nutrition I had.
Woke up at 5am and had a bowl of porridge, honey and milk. Then a Banana at 6am, and drank about 600 ml of a sport drink. This is all pretty standard for one of my race days. (not that there are many!)
Now, during the swim exit I swallowed a good bit of water - maybe 3 times I got hit by waves and swallow a bit. During the bike I had 4 Gels and 2 bottles (750mls each) of made up carb drink.
Near the end of the cycle, I started getting a stitch, when I got off the bike to run, I only made it ~50-100 meters before I was doubled over in pain from the stitch and couldn't shake it until the end. I even got it wheeling my bike to the car over and hour later and around 7pmish I got it again.
I think the mistake I made was in the carb drinks - it said on the pack to dump in 3 spoons but this can be increased for different intensity workouts. So, with my Dunce hat on I put in 4 spoons per 750ml.
As I don't EVER want to repeat the pain of walking-jogging-running for 3 hours with a stitch again - can anyone point me in the direction I went wrong? Was it the carb mix? The lack of water intake with gels or the salt water?
I'm not really used to mixing carbs drinks and or planning nutritional intake on endurance runs (usually I just buy some pre made drinks)
    Thanks in advance,

I wonder did you eat enough?
how did you feel at the end?
I had something to eat (either a gel or powerbar) at the start and the end of the swim, every 30mins on the bike (approx 6/7) then another at the start of the run and one at each feed station and this was coupled with as much gatorade and flat coke i could get my hands on at each place. Also on the bike had 2 x 750ml carb drink. even with all that i felt drained.
Maybe just the gels you had didnt agree with you. did you try them out in training beforehand?

Legs had plenty in them until mile 9.

It was the first time i had that particular gel. I'm planning on doing more and don't want the same experience, was hoping someone could tell me what it was.

Previous stitchs have been nothing like this, so i thought it might be something other than breathing/hydration.
