Advice for putting on exhibition

I'm hoping to have an exhibition in an arts centre in a couple of months. It's based on a silly idea while travelling a few months ago. A large chunk of the work is done (editing down, post processing).

Where I'm at now is planning for and developing the actual exhibition including publicity and even potential funding.

I'm not sure how to go about this, so if any of you have experience of this, or have links to websites giving advice on holding a photography exhibition, I'd love your help. It's more on the 'arty' side of photography (let's say of the Martin Parr variety), so I'm also open to interesting suggestions for exhibition format.

I'm in the middle of doing the same :) Do you have a venue yet?

I'd say that's your first hurdle. If you're going to any arts (or other) organisation looking for funding, then it's best to have every detail down. You've a bigger chance of getting money if you can go in saying "I have an exhibition opening on the 12th January in Artsy Studios, Kerry, and I need €800 for printing and mounting, as per this quote that I have from Lovely Framers Ltd".

As for the rest, this will be my first show outside college, and I'm kind of learning as I'm going. I have a meeting with my ex photography lecturer next week to go over layout and invite proofs etc., just to make sure I'm not cocking the whole thing up completely. I'd be glad to pass on what I'm learning :) If you're Dublin based, perhaps a coffee some time? Or if you're fearful of the internet-axe-murderer thing, my email is hello at sineadmcdonald dot com.
