Im trying to get an old Daimler v8 going.

Its been standing for 5 years.
Took out a spark plug today and its covered in oil, the hole where it came out from is full of oil.
Took a plug out from the other side and it was the same.
    Why is this?

Did you lay it up 5yrs ago, if not oil may have poured into the cylinders to preserve the engine.

Its not uncommon for the 'plug holes' to fill up with oil on a Daimler V8.
If you look at how the rocker cover is held on it will become obvious.

When I say 'plug holes' I refer to the tubes that you gain access to the spark plugs, these run through the rocker cover and thread into the cylinder head. The rocker cover is held on by knurled nuts on top of these tubes.
