Painted road markings at roundabouts.

Quick Question ... probably asked before but anyway.

Approaching the roundabout there are two lanes. The lane on the left has an arrow painted on the road pointing left and straight ahead (indicating the first and second exits). The lane on the right has an arrow painted on the road pointing right (showing that lane is for the third exit). Simple question - can I use the right hand lane for the second exit. Is it illegal / a bending of the rules or something else.

    Thanks,

    C.

No that would be illegal. What if someone in the left lane used the second exit the same time you did?

If the 2nd exit IS to the right (i.e no exit straight ahead) then YES

Since you stated that the arrow points straight and left, then in this case NO, you cannot take the 1st or 2nd exits in this right lane

yeah use the left lane or you're at risk of hitting someone who is using it

that said i admit there's a particular 2 lane entry 2 lane exit roundabout where i'd follow the red line here

as everyone else seems to, where they want to continue in the RH lane

Sorry I failed to clarify that there are two lanes at every exit. So its similar to your diagram bluewolf. However do the arrows on the road make it illegal to take the second exit in the right hand lane?

The rules of the road are pretty clear, follow normal roundabout rules unless otherwise indicated.... and it sounds here you are being indicated pretty explicitly here, i.e. if you are taking the first or second exit you must be in the left lane. If you are going past 12 o'clock, you must be in the right lane.

Correct, unless road markings say otherwise which, in this case, they don't.
