iTunes Folder Screen Grab

I tried to do a bit of tidying up on the itunes folder as it was all over the place, by default. I knew it would disturb some links and it did but on my last PC it was an easy fix. Locate one of the songs that had a '!' and the rest would locate...that didnt happen on my mac. pain in the ass.

so now i have about half of my albums unlocatable on itunes, and yes I Re-checked in preferences where all the music is stored and it won’t recognize the music.

So then I had the bright idea of re-dropping all the music folders into the library in itunes and deleting the duplicates so it would all be back to normal. But then I find that itunes for mac doesn’t have a feature to automatically delete duplicates. So now I have thousands of duplicates and half of them won’t play.

I hate this software. My ipod is structured perfectly but itunes library is all over the place.

Can anyone see a solution to clean up itunes that doesn’t take days? Thinking of copying all music onto an external HD, deleting itunes files and starting fresh.

Can you do a screen grab of how your itunes folder looks? All I tried to do was clean up the folder because it was all over the place.

Do you have a TM backup you can restore to?

There was no need to manually tidy up your iTunes folder. All you had to do was tell iTunes to "keep the iTunes folder organized" and it would do that for you.

I had it set to do that but it just wasnt.

Yes I have TM backup of last week. This is going to sound stupid but can I restore just that folder from the back up?

Sure, that's what Time Machine is for.

Close iTunes, go to the iTunes library folder in the Finder, enter Time Machine, go back to the earlier date and restore. Just make sure you do this in the upper part of the iTunes folder so it will get all the settings, etc.
