Bit of long range rifle zeroing and accessory pimping

I went out with my mate yesterday to get some long range zeroing done and test out the iPhone "iStrelok" ballistics app I use. And also to try out my new tri-stick rod-rest accessory add-on.

I knew my rifle was already zeroed but need to check out if the iPhone app would keep true out over the longer distances. I was using .308 Hornaday 155gr BT ammo.

I set the zoom at 12 which is what the instructions for my Bushnell 4200 Elite 6-24x50 say is the correct setting for their mildot reticle. I did not dial in the the click value from the ballistics program but used the mildots that is an graphic screen option in the iStrelok program on the iPhone.

So at 335y and using the bottom of the second mildot I found I was high and then the check again @695y which was at the top of the bottom post again I was high, by 2foot. By bringing up the Ballistics Coefficent from .435 to .750 I was on target using the fourth mildot.

    Wind was at 5o'clock @4-5mph and was 5.5" @695y.

In hind-sight instead of altering the BC I should have altered the zoom of the scope to fall in the the iStrelok graphic screen read out. Thats now for another day.

So with the iPhone iStrelok program set-up I shot from 200y, 335y, 695y and 820y and all was on target to within better than 1MOA. All ranged with a Leica lrf 900 scan rangefinder.

I then tested out my tri-stick with a rod-rest added as an extra steady arm. It worked out far better than expected as I could again hit the same 695y target and the aim point was steady. I also head shot a rabbit @200y using the tri-sticks+1. Link to tri-sticks+1 review

We managed to retrieve the copper jacket from the rabbit shot.

Very light, I also use a harness for my Bins and push the tri-sticks through the shoulder straps, then I can rest my arms on them.

A couple more photos of the copper jacket bullet that I washed out this morning. No sign of the lead core.
