It's all well and good, but would he do it on a wet Wednesday night in Stoke?

The kid's got talent. Doesn't seem to like passing the ball to his teammates though.

There is always kids like that. When I was growing up we had one too. He quickly started passing and stopped showing off when a few two footed tackles came his way.

He so did not mean to do that flick at 1:41. He looks really good though...

They'll never win anything with kids.

He's too selfless. Needs to stop bringing other players into the game at the expense of himself.

why have kids play with a ball 14 times the size of their heads? stupid.

Im a big fan of JPA but his son just looks like a greedy bollix

There are two ways to look at it. I read somewhere that in Brazil, Holland or Spain (can't remember which one, sorry) all the kids play with small footballs and are taught to play a passing game. it helps their ball control. Then when they're older they can transition to the full size balls and do the same.

Then I read another article that says full size footballs for kids get them used to them from an early age and allow them to develop skills with the full sized balls.

I'd go with the first option personally.

Staggering to think that a kid who was probably coached by a professional footballer since he could walk is better then a bunch of 8 year olds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,438 ✭✭✭livinginkorea

That's some serious talent. Why does he need to pass when he is obviously a few notches above the rest? Sure in time he will learn to be more than a one-man team. Kids that age are all me, me, me (doesn't change much to be fair!).

dead right Quazzie...I counted one pass in the total 6 min of that clip. Ya he can run, dribble and shoot but he's no team player. I for one wouldnt want him playing in my kids team. I'd like to see him on a wet wed night playing over here where the kids put in much harder tackles than the softies in that clip in the states. 2 or 3 crunching tackles and he wouldnt be long thinking about running at the defence again. I was impressed by one or 2 of the tackles, pity they werent more consistent.

At that age they should be trying to promote max 3 touches on the ball and pass it. Obvioulsy the coaches dont want to lose him to a bigger club by reeling him in but he's detrimental to that teams development.
Have to say I'm saddened & maddened to watch that clip...

He's not bad but I definitely wouldn't call that a prodigy. When I was in Mexico all the kids teams had a player like that. In fact even in Ireland you'd have a few players like that. Has the potential to be great don't get me wrong, but he's one of many.

Probably been posted a bajillion times before but this is the best kids football vid I've seen on youtube and even then I don't know if anything came of this guy.

did your kid get schooled by JPA's lad or something?

    Why do you say that?

If I had my kid on his team and the coaches persisted with his glory hunting I would take him off it straight away. That kid aswell by his attitude doesnt look to be any type of team player and loves the spotlight.

I've seen kids that age with as much skill level as he has in Ireland so he's no superstar but yet pass the ball on after creating the bit of space with the skill.

I have much more time for kids that are a level above other players in their team that pass the ball to them than these glory hunters. You only have to look at his reaction to his team mates goal in the first few secs of the clip...he just walked away and didnt even celebrate with him, although when he scored his goals it was like he wanted the whole place to run the pitch with him...

Totally agree with you. That kind of behavior on the pitch could maybe be tolerated if he was six or even seven years old, but at eight he's no spring chicken and should know better.

I agree with you that he's not a superstar(at least not yet, but he's only 8 so plenty of time) but for a young child that kind of behaviour when you score is normal and I wouldn't be reading into it too much. Tbh I don't think anyone is a team player when they are under 10 or 11.

    I disagree...
Depends on how they are coached and what they are taught at training.

Take it handy, he's 8 years old. Come back in 10 years time and criticise him. It was just a few clips not a full game, what video compilation would show an 8 year old knocking the ball around to teammates. It just showed his skill and a few good goals it was hardly an in depth scouting video

you don't watch much U9/U10/U11 football in Ireland do you ?

there are lots of teams in Dublin alone who are very well organised and pass the ball for each other, I see them week in and week out.

Today I will be at an U9 game in Wayside and U10 game in Rockbrook - the games are not meant to be competitive but every player on the team wants to be involved and wants to win the game....I'm also photographing a senior game in blanchardstown and another in Irishtown...busy day today !

(I'm a photographer and photograph all levels of underage football - I cover games that I'm sent to by either the Star or the Herald...or if a club wants to hire a photographer)

And therein lies the problem, children aren't supposed to be a well drilled unit. And as such Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales are teams full of good atheletes and mostly average footballers.
