As stated above im tempted to do the lakes 10k tomorrow but ive an 18 miler scheduled with a few lads on sunday, what im thinking of doing is just clip along at 8:30 pace and then be ok for sunday, so, 50 mins on tarmac tomoro followed by LSR sunday or should i just do 40 mins easy on grass tomoro instead, all opinions welcome!!

I think it's a good idea (if you've plenty of miles in your legs)
Your lsr will be run on tired legs replicating marathon conditions somewhat.

But I'd race the 10km why bother doing it otherwise.

Race Saturday, long run Sunday. Sleep Monday-Friday. Repeat.

    :D
Good thinkin Krusty! I done 17 miles last Sunday morning, had high hopes of going to see the Ironman after but the sleep put an end to that intention, not quite all the way to Friday though - unfortunately!!!

Woddle, sounds like decent advice, thanks, my weekly mileage has been averagin around the 30 mark last few weeks so trying to bump it up for the next few weeks before tapering for Dublin, so the 6 tomorrow, providing not too lively, could make for valuable additional mileage

I was being a little facetious. But it should be fine. My training program calls for two tune-up races, followed by a 17-18 mile long run the following day. I generally take the long run very easy the following day and don't push too hard.

It might help to eat immediately after the race tomorrow, and stay well hydrated for the day (avoid the post race pints!).

Ya, unfortunately pints are no-no coz of the LSR, but I hear the spread of grub after the Lakes is savage!

Done DCM last year and just done my own thing, first marathon and broke the 4 hour mark but wrecked my body which took til xmas to repair so this year Ive decided to go for some structure in the form of Hal Higdons Intermediate 1 program, for this week he says to do 8 miles tomorrow and then the 18 on Sunday. Kinda bending the rules on that program a bit coz *whisper it quietly* im throwing in intervals and tempos midweek, planning on doing a lively 10k early october, bit naughty amnt I! giggidy :pac:

I think the lakes race is sold out.

it is, so no on the day reg. There is a BHAA 10k on in Firhouse though.

Regarding a race followed by a LSR, personally I can't do it. Wrecks the rest of my week and have picked up niggles in the past following that path. Others seem to have no problem doing it though so you'll have to make that call yourself.

I think RR is right it comes down to the individual. Some people's bodies refuse it, other people dont have the miles in there legs to be able for it and for others its no problem.
I usually do Long run day after a race even if it is a Sunday race I push my LSR to Monday and make sure I have a recovery day after that. As KC said though dont worry about pace and run a bit easier than you would have if you didnt have the race. Its all about time on your feet not how quick you do it on these post race LSRs

Crux of the problem is that I've already signed up to the race, long ago, and long before I started contemplating DCM:( so now its either one or the other or how do I get away with doing both, decision decisions!!!

I'm doing the race tomorrow and an LSR on sunday. It is a common part of the P&D programme to have both in a weekend, gets your body used to running on tired legs.
Just don't worry about the pace of the LSR, go as slow as you need to.

Right then, I think this is the best plan of action - 8:30 pace tomorrow, 9:00 pace Sunday for the LSR, hope that works!
