    Good luck

Their was worldwide price drop on these last month, that's the reason, not a limited offer or anything.....

I don't know which branch he visited, but a mate of mine just picked one up and was told this price was only valid for the weekend.

He lives in Drogheda so I assume it was Scotch Hall.

My Original PS3 YLOD for the 3rd time yesterday! Reflowed her again but as they have reduced so much in price its time to get a new one. Must check out HMV today and see is the offer still on. Amazon UK is coming out at €208 with free delivery as of now! I'll price Smyths, Tesco etc too!

If you have a USB stick, you can just put the AVI/MP4 files on that and watch them that way. For some reason, cinavia doesn't check them that way.

It does, if a video file is played its checked with cinavia, regardless of what media its played from.

Errr... yes it does. USB sticks don't work either.

I've the latest firmware and it does work. For me it only detects watermarks of files burnt to a DVD, but for files copied from a USB stick, they play fine.

At the moment there are very few titles that Cinavia recognises - but to clairfy there is absolutely no workaround once installed. Wikipedia has a list of the known releases.

Anyway back to my question - anyone know what system software is coming installed on the PS3's that HMV are selling?

I'm only making a suggestion to you, if you can't be bothered to try it then that's your loss.

I've burnt files to DVD (which are on the wikipedia list you mentioned) only for them to be detected by cinavia, and as a result they wouldn't play. I put those same files onto my USB and copied them onto my PS3, only for them to play no bother.

 I tried it many ways in the past - it doesn't work. I sold my ps3 because of it hence why I'm trying to find out the SW version on these ...

It is like any system you play games on (PS3, Xbox, PC) the game developers release patches for the games and you download them. The PS3 just happens to download and install a little slower than the 360.

Also Sony update the firmware more often than Microsoft do for the 360. No big deal. Just a download a few times a year. If you don't play online then you can ignore these updates.
