Ah i dunno just thought the induction last year was badly organised and the staff last year weren't very empathetic or informative even about the simplest of things. Its a new environment for first years and can be intimidating and staff need to be more helpful in all honesty. I mean there was no timetable last year for the induction week and considering all the other crap mail and leaflets floating about surely it wouldn't have killed them to have a formal timetable. Thats just one example. We were given a guided tour around the campus from a lecturer who was whispering despite construction works going on in the new student union Centre i mean ffs.

Speak of that we had our exams in the Barrow Centre in May and construction works were ongoing while we were trying to do them. We had hammers banging while we were trying to concentrate.Obviously i dont blame the work men but for the IT to allow that is just stupid. I could have swore i had read prior that construction would cease while the exams were ongoing.

I mean i start back Wednesday and i honestly don't know what room to go to like. Things should just be more laid out in advance rather then this Easter egg hunt that we seem to be on.

It seems to occur in every sector. My friend went to an open evening after giving a day in work and wanted information on a particular course. he gave half an hour in the queue and finally got to speak to the staff only to realise he had been sent to the wrong queue. I mean i know there is a few courses but there is just no excuse for that.

He sent an email on the course to one of the course administrators asking a particular question about the course and got back an answer to a completely different question. I seen the email and just wasnt surprised to be honest.

Others may have more positive experiences and fair enough but there is no doubt they could improve and show common sense on a few things.

Which induction are you talking about, there are two. Student Services and a separate Course/school induction.
You must have missed the induction timetable from last year as I still have a copy of it.

There was problems with the Barrow Centre in May alright, the builders were instructed not to make ANY noise but decided not to listen amazingly! There was a formal complaint lodged with the builders........

Your complaints aren't actually college admin. related, It's all negative in relation to the lecturers! While I agree on the lecturers not being great sometimes, I feel the need to defend the admin staff here!! If you're looking for any type of information ask the admin staff ;)

As i've said to a few Carlow IT boardsies before, if you have a complaint/opinion etc make sure you use the complaint procedure or nothing will happen

    :)
