I need a kickdown unit for one of these cars, anyone have any pointers as to as to where to locate one and a ballpark price? Is it better to try and get a secondhand gearbox?

    Thanks in advance!

Is there a part no on it?

I'll check tomorrow, there defiantly is. No point spending a large chunk on the car when it's worth peanuts anyway, some barge all the same tho.

I'd google the part number, stick it into ebay too.

It' been a while since you posted the above so you may have gotten sorted by now but just in case you haven't or for anyone else out there looking for 2nd-hand parts for a W140 S-Class (or most other Mercedes), this info may be useful.

Rory's Mercedes in Lusk, north Co. Dublin, has a bunch of W140 models scrapped for parts.

I've gotten several parts off him for my 1995 W140 S500 and my previous car, a 1988 W126 420/500SE (including the 5.0 litre V8 engine for the implied engine change in the latter!) over the last four years or so.

You can get his contact details from his website here:
    http://www.rorysmercedes.com/contact.htm

Ring him though; don't email because you might not get a reply for ages, he told me he's not a fan of using email!

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't have that part second-hand which should mean a reasonable price I'm sure.
