Back again , just had major service for doe , which finally passed after failing on a few things . Anyway an old starting problem has re appeared . When cold and after heating the glow plugs a few times , she turns fine , plenty of battery , but doesent start . Fortunately its pasked on a hill so she starts with a run , but a lot of smoke from the exhaust!! Then i can actually turn her off and start with no probs . Am told glows ok , alternator rebuilt a month ago . any suggestions welcome thanks

It could be a week starter motor. If it starts on a push its not the glow plugs. When you say you switch it off, is it after a short spin or straight away?

used to think it had to warm ,but not the case , it will start again straight away . was thinking a diesel supply prob .as if diesel was getting to engine but when idle would drain back to tank ??
