Where do sites get their odds?

    It seems like lots of sites have access to all the odds being offered by various bookmakers. The oddschecking sites such as betbrain and oddschecker. And then there are various sites run tipping competitions who also have access to the odds - http://www.olbg.com/tips.php

    The sites with tipping competitions must also have results feeds so they can mark if tipsters if have won or lost with their selections.

    So I am wondering where all these sites get their odds? They are hardly screenscraping the data, they must be getting feeds from somewhere.

    So anyone know anything about how these sites get their odds (and results) feeds?

    They connect directly into the bookmakers using various technologies and store the odds locally on their own sites.

    Nothing more complicated than that.

    And do they get this access for free? It seems like they should considering they are the ones supplying the bookmakers with business.

    They are just the same as other affiliates and get paid a commission for bets placed directly through their own site. The access would be typically free.

    I would imagine the majority of people use these sites to research odds but would go to a bookmakers site directly to place the bet.

    The odds aggregation sites also make money from banner ads.

    Directly from the bookies site. Ladbrokes stopped supplying them for a while.

    Ladbrokes stopped their association with Oddschecker around 8 months ago but continued with others such as odds.bestbetting.com.

    There hasn't been a time when they were on no odds aggregation sites.
