Apparently the Guards & Customs set up three checkpoints around Spiddal (not known as crime central) along the same road. A friend of mine got stopped at all three !. Also there was a rumour that people were made to dismount from a bus. Is this a new technique to bombard a small area ?

They may have been looking for someone or acting on information about something?
God only knows DD (and the cops involved of course)
The lads here won't comment for operational reasons methinks
Of course it could also be because that neck of the woods was portrayed as crime central in "The Guard" recently :D

Since discovered that it was one of those joint operations with DOE & customs. Usually they set up one checkpoint for all three but decided to split them up this time. There is a local suggestion that it was done to impress the Judges who were in the Village Court.

One market stall holder reckoned his takings were down 50%.
