A new species of predatory wasp with enormous jaws found in Sulawesi has been described as the wasp equivalent of a Komodo dragon.
It belongs to genus Dalara and although it has no specific name just yet, the scientist who found it plans on naming it after Garuda, a half man, half eagle supernatural warrior of Hindu mythology.

The creature is 2.5 inches long, with jaws longer than its forelegs that "wrap up either side of the head when closed". Females are smaller, but still huge for a wasp.
