Any point to getting a second hand sky+ hd box?

As above, I can get one reasonably cheap on adverts. I only have the variety, kids, and knowledge pack I think. No hd sub obviously.

If I get a hd box to replace it, I presume it will just display the sd channels upscaled, no hd channels bar bbchd? Sky + will work though?

    Thanks

You will have at least treble the space for recording and hd you can get hold of a english f t v card you can get utv and channel 5 on your epg and record from them. So yes go for it .

They are becoming ever cheaper these days, so just for the space, it would be worth a go.

The SKY+ functions won't work though, unless you contact sky and tell them to ''pair your card'' with the new HD box.

We got a S/H Sky HD box and it does the UK EPG with no card, most at the least need even a cancelled UK card to get UK EPG if they first used in Ireland. We have no Sky sub of any kind. So no recording. But my wife likes the Red Button for Wimbledon etc.

It's only worth it if it's really cheap.

Big improvement not only in terms of hard drive space but also the epg is much improved. You will need to call Sky to pair your card to the new box.

Also as of Sept 1st you will have had all non-premium sky channels.

Got one on adverts for 60, happy with it. Initially, I was surprised when I popped in my card and I had my channels. Great. No need to call Sky I thought. Then I noticed that it wasn't recording. Quick call and all done.

    Hi Mark,

Quick question, did you not need to get a second cable run to your new box in order to record on it, i.e. watch one station and record another?

You need 2 cables in order to watch one channel and record another,it will work in single feed mode for one cable but you can only record what you watch which is a bit pointless.
