Ok it's fair to say I have had enough of the Social Welfare! I am only on Job Seeker's allowance just two months. I signed on last on the 8th of August. As it was my first time to sign on or be on benefits I went to Clondalkin to find out what dates I needed to sign on.

I was told August the 8th and the 8th of every month after that, I asked for a letter but was refused and told "sure that's an easy number to remember".

I went to my local signing on centre today to find that they were closed, I went in the morning and the afternoon. I rang the Clondalkin office and was told that my sign on day was the 5th.

I asked how this could be and got a smart reply of "it's Monday every four weeks, why didn't you know that, the 8th could be on a Saturday". How am I supposed to know this when I was told it was the 8th of each month and my first time on benefits!!

I was told that my payments have been deferred for tomorrow and I have to go to Clondalkin for the late sign on.

My main questions are, will I receive my payment this week? Will I get a double week next week? Or will I just miss out because of a fault on their part that made it look like it was my problem?

I'm sure some of you reading this will not think I should be moaning but I only received my first full payment last week and won't be getting it back dated.
    Thanks

Sounds as if they held back the payment when you didn't sign on Monday but it is worth going into the Post Office anyway to check if your payment is there and say nothing if it isn't. SW could retain some of the money because of the late signing so important tomorrow to state at the SW what the mixup was so that they will release the full amount. They should be able to tell you tomorrow at SW when retained payment will be available for collection at PO.

The slip of paper they give you with the payment at the post office will have your next sign on date written at the bottom and also, when you sign on at the SW office on your usual date, they should have a notice up showing the next signing date.

I asked about that on the bottom of the paper and was told stick with the 8th  I'm new to it and didn't want to mess anything up

sounds like you have some useless twat in your swo office just like i do. they seem to be prevalent at the moment. varying degrees of idiocy.

when you go in for your late sign on explain your situation and then from then on go by the date on the slip you get when you get your dole. this is correct

My sister is in the exact same situation to yourself in the same dole shop.

    Any update on your situation?

Went to the Clondalkin office for the late sign on Friday, signed on and had to make a slight fuss but I am getting my payment for last week.

It was made out to be my fault but I will go by the dates given not said as that left me in the dark and made out to be a fool.
