Listen to the news last night on how can we address the internet stop kids from getting onto porn sites how to stop kids from putting in a fake age to gain access to a web site..

It got me thinking and came up with an idea...

But who can I tell ? That could develop it and test it and if it worked then we have a safer web for kids

You're a wee bit too late on that ship.

There are tons of "applications" out there to help block and parent kids online.

Netnanny, openDNS, Windows Live Family Safety.

There's always a way around them though. Nature..............finds a way.

its near impossible to block the net. china invests millions into this and its still not fool proof.

Only ways of blocking this are at the hosting\ISP or end user.

Yep, the "Great Firewall of China". There was a good show on bbc called "virtual revolution" can't find the specific vid that relates to the firewall though.

Your not blocking net but stopping access to a site what are two things that are sent to a computer from a site cookies and a cert

    Cookies.
Cookies are not software. They cannot be programmed, cannot carry viruses, and cannot install malware on the host computer .[2] However, they can be used by spyware to track user's browsing activities – a major privacy concern that prompted European and US law makers to take action.[3] [4] Cookies could also be stolen by hackers to gain access to a victim's web account.[5]

I'm sure it's the same for a cert, but don't quote me.

My program or idea is not based on cookies..

It's based on something else that will be programmed the min. The user enter their age In the setup menu.

Who can I go to with an idea like this

And that'll last all of the 30 seconds it takes to burn a Linux live CD and bypass it completely.

Are you a father if so do you allow your kid to install win xp or 7 plus I'm looking at the idea like yahoo have for their mail.

When you have more the one user on a computer what is stopping some one who know.someone else's password from getting into their account well Since computer now come with built in cam why not offer a choice of taken a pic of you and when you log in a snap shot of you is taken if your face match with the pic then your allowed Into this account if not your locked out.

Those the answer some of your question?

You think a kid is going to burn a live cd of Linux ? Most kids don't even know. What Linux is never mind how to run it well, this idea is cross platform not only Windows but also for smart devices as well if I could just look more depth into smart devices

No, thankfully. But that's for another debate. :pac:

Is that what you're talking about?

What's to stop them from holding up a photo of their parent and log on to that unblocked account?

You could just set up a different account for each family member and limit their access with the Windows product I mentioned earlier?

You're very naive to think that a child doesn't know how to circumvent blocking software nowadays. They could easily download and burn ubuntu which has a built in web browser and can also boot from the cd so the operating system is essentially booting and running from the cd.

Also smart devices can be Jailbroken (iphone), rooted (android).

One click to download an image, a double click on the image to start an associated burning program, yeah, I think a child can manage that.

I used to work as a network administrator in a school with about 900 students and the ingenuity of them is legendary. The thing is as well, they don't all have to be geeks, they just have to know one. One enterprising little chap in 2nd year was selling usb sticks with a proxy and firefox to get onto facebook in the computer labs. Took me a while to figure out how he was doing it :o

At least 3 times in the 2 months I was there, I was overwhelmed by the smarts of today's kids, do not underestimate them

Negtaive photo ? Which would stop people from putting a photo in front

It's not a software you click and click and a child is block this is more down the line of Cryptography

Sharing one age cert with a website to match its min age limit to allow or deny access to a site.

Since in college I don't like programming but fell in love with networking so I'm hoping to go onto do my honour In cloud networking after I get my BA in computer science.

    One hopes
