Should I get crowns!

    Hi all,
Have gone down a long road in order to get a better smile! Was thinking a few years ago I wanted a full smile makeover so went to local dentist. He suggested orthodontics instead so got braces and got good results but still wanted to enhance the appearance of my teeth so my orthodontist referred me to a prothedontist (not sure spelt correctly :)) Firstly I show a lot of gum so got crown lengthening done and this has greatly improved the appearance of the teeth. My teeth are in really good condition as attend regular dentist check ups and have no fillings bar my front two teeth which I damaged after a bad fall when about 10 years old resulting in chipping one and needing fillings in both. My prothedontist has suggested crowns on front two teeth and veneers on other upper teeth to achieve a good look but since has suggested veneers wont suit me as I am a bad grinder and clench my teeth so suggested doing all crowns. My question is this. Should I go along with the treatment as am only 30 and especially when I don't have any severe damage and would only be doing it for purely cosmetic reasons. I know I will get a fantastic result if I go ahead but just starting to worry about the long term implications. Sorry for long post, Thanks in advance, Sally.

30 is defiantly not young for crowns if they are indicated.

Unfortunately without knowing the OP's clinical situation you cannot make such a statement. The OP's teeth may require crowns for several reasons, there may be very large fillings which are likely to fracture taking a lot of good tooth with them, there may be root canal requiring protection. There may be aesthetic issues that can only be resolved with crowns or other restorations.

Crowns are not particularly invasive unless your cutting into perfectly healthy teeth, which is not the case in the OPs mouth. A crown will protect the remaining tooth structure and look good for many years and is often the most conservative thing to do in the long term.
