    http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/69/transfer-zone/2011/09/03/2649170/anzhi-makhachkala-misses-out-on-87m-deadline-day-signing-of

I was listening to the Football Ramble podcast last night and they mentioned this story. Is is actually true? I dont seem to remember this being mentioned on SSN in amongst all the hyperbolic, sensationalist nonsense of Transfer Deadline Day. If it is true, I can't believe it wasn't at least reported on deadline day. Instead we were subjected to where Shaun Wright Phillips was going..

Sorry if this isnt worthy of its own thread but a virtually unknown club making incredible waves in the transfer market is imho worthy of discussion

As above SSN are only interested in what happens in the greatest super dupper league in the history of football, the premier league.

Why would a team would bid 87 million for a player who is only worth 20 -25 million? insanity.

    Must be bullcrap.

Even sky must have assumed it was total ****e, he's worth about a quarter of that. Saying that it's most likely sky's super xenophobia.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was true, considering the amounts of money they are throwing around, but I'd take anything goal.com lightly. they're usually talking boll*x when it comes to transfers.

It was on the BBC's site. Not the front page but their transfer ticker.

I posted it on boards. We all had a good laugh and moved on.

If this is true then frankly it's disgusting. Russia is not a wealthy country. There is a huge fraud being perpetuated on the masses there by a few select wealthy individuals and this is how they choose to spend the money. I mean come on everyone knows that Falcao was way better!

Falcao was a total one-trick pony. What did he ever do after Rock Me Amadeus?

Falcao cost Atleti 40 odd jaysus million euro.

He's a super player but for a guy who's coming from the Portuguese League that's a scary price.

Why should Sky be focusing on anything other than the transfers involving British Clubs? British channel plus 99% of viewers on transfer deadline day would support British Clubs. Im sure if a world record bid had been made it would have been reported though. There was a report City bid 50m plus players for Messi...load of crap and Sky didnt report that either!
