Elgato EyeTV - questions- file type and overheating

Anyone with one of those Elgato EyeTV USB sticks: what kind of file does it record the programs as? Is it possible to watch/edit them with other software or only Elagto's?

I've come across a couple of mentions of an over-heating issue with the USB sticks. Anyone had any experience of that?

    Thanks

The Elgato software records in MPEG4 and H264 so you can edit the recordings with pretty much anything.

The stick gets hot to touch but I've yet to experience a meltdown from one.

I've a 3 year old mini and I've no problem watching HD tv with the USB stick, never had any over-heating problem.
