Historical sites in Ireland

Hi I want to bring a friend who's not from ireland to see some historical spots around Ireland. they're not from Ireland but have a degree in history and loves architecture etc they have seen newgrange/nowth/dowth Anywhere else you would recommend to bring them?

If its a medieval walled town Youghal is probably the best

Don't forget the museums - The National Museum on Kildare St Dublin has one of the largest collection of Bronze Age gold in the world.

There is more gold from Ireland c 800 BC than anywhere else in Europe as the museum director Pat Wallace frequently points out.

The oldest protestant church on the island, amazing inside considering the architecture is from 1633. Even older than the ones in dublin. It was also designed by james1.

Designed by sir hervey bruce been in there they've got lovely gardens.

Thats the only two here can't think of anymore.

I have been there to St Columbs and it is really worth a visit and you can walk around the city walls aswell.

It is one of the best historic sites in Ireland.

Im very biased being from the area but south west wexford has an abundance of notable historical sites. Including;
The Hook lighthouse- i think second or third oldest in the world.
Sites of the norman landings in 1169 and 1171. Baginbun is my favourite.
Tintern abbey- beuatiful place and the story behind it is quiet interesting.
Duncannon fort.
Reginalds tower and the various 'viking' aspects of waterford.
Dunbrody emigrants ship.
Slade castle.

All of these are in a 25km radius of ech other

+ 1 for the Skellig. Fab day out if the weather is on your side.

Historic houses: Castle Coole in Enniskillen; Russborough near Blessington (I don't know anything about it but there is very lovely ornamental plasterwork if your friend is into architecture); Castletown in Celbridge.
