I did this one year, was ok but wouldn't do it again unless i was desperate.

You're only going to get evening and weekend shifts as the regular staff do all the best shifts. The pay is average for retail work and beware if you show any kind of friendliness or rapport with customers - you will be stuck on the customer service desk dealing with returns and complaints and people moaning about stock levels of the most wanted gift items.

Other than that it was as expected and you get a wee discount off your christmas shopping.

They may keep you on after Christmas if you're willing to work the crappy shifts and have good customer skills.!!!

How exactly are they crappy shifts?

I worked a summer job there, went onto get full time staff and then part time manager.

Dont slack, work hard and when facing customers show patience and manners and you'll be on good course to get kept on.

It is not a difficult job, there is typically alot of craic and banter across the stores, and when I left about 4 years ago, Argos were the highest paying retailer chain, in terms of your pay per hour.

Or does anyone know when I might hear back from them?

Sorry should have clarified, from my perspective they weren't the best shifts as I have a husband and kids so I was leaving as the family were arriving home and I had to plan the weekends around work. I asked if I could just have one day shift a week but they only wanted me for evenings and weekends. Completely understand that they have to cover the eve's and weekends but just couldn't maintain it.

I work in argos and if you are interested go into a store and ask for an application...oh and then be lucky very lucky because the amount of application forms that are handed in is crazy!
And remember its all about customer service if you get an interview focus on that.

    nope

but at the same time they did advertise on the news for a few hundred jobs

but only about 10 jobs or so per store

and they probably got thousands of applications

    just give it time.

I left in an application form, along with my cv, to the Argos in the Jervis centre and also the Argos in the Ilac centre about a month ago... Still have not heard anything..
